The product is a starter-sized plant with an approximate 4-inch-diameter root zone. The plant will be a minimum of 6 to 8 inches tall. It will not have buds or blooms on arrival. Starter-sized plants are intended for a gardener to plant and grow to their mature size.

  • Acca sellowianna, or Pineapple Guava, is a slow-growing, tree-like shrub with soft, leathery green and silver foliage. It is frequently grown as a decorative ornamental plant, but it also produces an edible fruit. It can grow as much as 15 feet tall if left unpruned, but is generally grown as a boxed hedge or as a large, rounded accent shrub.
  • Unusual, small white flowers with purple edges and showy bright red center tufts of pollen-tipped stamens begin to appear in late spring and are followed by a small, oval, egg-shaped green to gold edible fruit, if pollinated. Fruits have a thick, granular, white flesh and a fruity taste similar to pineapples and guavas.
  • Care: When mature, plant in fertile, well-draining soil in full sun. Water as needed to maintain consistent soil moisture, but avoid overwatering. Feed a good quality, slow-release general-purpose fertilizer with the initial planting and annually in spring thereafter. Prune after fruiting to control size, shape, and remove any unwanted fruit. A period of winter chilling is necessary for the plants to produce flowers and fruit.
  • Indoor Growing: This plant eventually grows large, requires the full spectrum of light 4 to 6 hours daily, high humidity, warm temperatures, and a chilling period in winter to produce flowers. So so well-suited for the average indoor growing space.
  • Climate: Pinapple Guava is moderately cold-tolerant and recommended for USDA Growing Zones 7, 8 and 9.
